To get to know the Lord, you must seek Him with all your heart and soul (“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”- Jeremiah 29:13). This is what separates the “religious” from disciples and the unsaved from the saved. A relationship with Jesus is the very thing that saves your soul! Jesus came to restore our fellowship, our connection with God and without Him we have nothing. Everyone may have a slightly different approach, but a good rule of thumb is to dwell on Scriptures as the Holy Spirit leads you. Spend quiet time in prayer to get into God’s presence and hear His voice. The Holy Spirit will lead you by the inward witness, sometimes audibly or by dreams/visions. The most common on a daily basis however is the inward witness. Learn to pray in the spirit (the opposite of praying “in the flesh”, with the carnal mind etc.) and rely on God more than your own thoughts/opinions/feelings. Because He is all-knowing, you aren’t! We may perceive things a certain way and be wrong. But the more you allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify your heart and mind, the more you will be able to ‘walk in agreement’ with Him naturally.
You will want to immerse yourself in the things of God. The key to a godly lifestyle is to maintain a spirit-filled life by living a lifestyle that is truly biblical and honors God and to continually remain in His Word. Always learning, always getting into His presence and speaking to Him throughout the day. When you are waiting on an answer to prayer or for an assignment or “task” from God you will want to spend even more time in prayer. You will want to practice waiting on God for things such as supplies, instruction, strength, to reveal Himself, for blessing, in Holy Expectancy, continually, for redemption, and for His return as well. Waiting for Christ’s return entails living a sanctified lifestyle, walking with God, and listening/watching for the signs of His return; we are told to watch for them!
In-between times of prayer you will want to focus on doing things that please the Lord (such as walking in love/in the spirit-this enables the Holy Spirit to move on your behalf and others) and by honoring Him in your lifestyle and following the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
By seeking Him in His Word you will learn to discern His voice as the Holy Spirit enlightens your understanding with wisdom and revelation. Your faith grows by reading the Word. Leave any concerns you have at God’s altar and pray for the Holy Spirit to give you strength, peace, and protection.
Be sure to put on the Armor of God; loins girt with truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes with the preparation of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit/word of God. You can also plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself, your family, possessions etc. When you rebuke the enemy always do so by using the Name of Jesus. The Blood protects and the Name represents the authority of Jesus Christ and what He did on the Cross to give us access to these things in His Name. We are the Body of Christ who are meant to carry out His will (the Holy Spirit does this through us)! As a Child of God, you have authority over the enemy (supernaturally we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies).
The more you do these things and the more closely you walk with the Lord, He will give you bigger assignments and work through you as He performs His will through you. The Holy Spirit delivers and empowers. It is only by the power of God/the Holy Spirit that strongholds and generational curses can be broken. As you grow in the Word, your faith will grow. There may be times where your faith is weak and you have doubts, but press-in anyway. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you and press-in to God’s promises in His Word. Pray into God’s Word. Don’t give up but persist in prayer. When you have an innate, heart knowledge that this is God’s will and you “pull” the promises from God’s Word, this is what you would call “violent faith” and is what really moves the hand of God. Often when interceding in prayer for someone, binding/rebuking the demons/strongholds (which often go together) is necessary for them to be able to “hear” and receive the Gospel.
Jesus is our intercessor and through Him we can pray for and help those who can’t help themselves (particularly the unsaved) or fellow believers who need our prayers. When you pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit travails to bring forth His Kingdom and for Christ to be formed in you. When interceding for the lost, the Holy Spirit will supernaturally enable you to identity with them and God’s heart for them to be in you so that your prayers have more anointing.

Things may not always seem fair in this world, but God will restore all that was lost when we get to heaven. Keep following the direction of the Holy Spirit for more anointing. As you do so you will continue to “level up” going from glory to glory and revelation to revelation. Fasting can help, when you need an answer from God that you’ve been struggling with, or you just desire to be closer to God. It can be as simple as only drinking water for a day. Make it a day that you decide on, and don’t tell anyone! Otherwise, you could get distracted or the enemy could try to come against you. Continue to meditate on the Word of God, be a doer of the Word (fulfill everything in it), obey God’s Word in the small things and revelation will come. Put the Word of God above all else, instantly respond to your spirit (train your spirit by the Word). Do these things and you will continue to grow as a Child of God and as a spiritual warrior!
